In this generation-defining self-help guide, a superstar blogger cuts through the crap to show us how to stop trying to be "positive" all the time so that we can truly become better, happier people.

For decades, we’ve been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F**k positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let’s be honest, shit is f**ked and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn’t sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is—a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is his antidote to the coddling, let’s-all-feel-good mindset that has infected American society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Manson makes the argument, backed both by academic research and well-timed poop jokes, that improving our lives hinges not on our ability to turn lemons into lemonade, but on learning to stomach lemons better. Human beings are flawed and limited—"not everybody can be extraordinary, there are winners and losers in society, and some of it is not fair or your fault." Manson advises us to get to know our limitations and accept them. Once we embrace our fears, faults, and uncertainties, once we stop running and avoiding and start confronting painful truths, we can begin to find the courage, perseverance, honesty, responsibility, curiosity, and forgiveness we seek.

There are only so many things we can give a f**k about so we need to figure out which ones really matter, Manson makes clear. While money is nice, caring about what you do with your life is better, because true wealth is about experience. A much-needed grab-you-by-the-shoulders-and-look-you-in-the-eye moment of real-talk, filled with entertaining stories and profane, ruthless humor, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k is a refreshing slap for a generation to help them lead contented, grounded lives.

Catchy title

I give the book a letter grade of a B. It has some true gems of wisdom but overall I felt that the author wasn’t providing as much substance as I was looking for.

🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽

This books really makes you think, think deeper about thing you care about and don’t care about. This book helped me realize I need to loosen up a little and live more. Be yourself.

Clarity. That is what this book did for me, give me clarity on exactly what life is about. I have dedicated my life to the service of others, to find myself, and to make enough money to be able to live comfortably. Although I enjoy what I do, I think that somewhere along the way, I missed replaced my metric value with something frivolous, and that left me feeling empty. I am slowly getting back to what’s really important and this book is a great guide for me in that sense.

Sad Psycho

What can I say?

If you are looking for a book that will inspire you, that will help you out of your depressive rut… this is the book. This is hands down the best book I have ever read, Mansons way of looking at the world, is similar to what most of us think we see, but he conveys it in a way that is undeniable, and boarder lining overwhelming. I am usually not a big reader, but I read this book a second time less than a month after I finished it the first, and than several months after that. I love this book, and cannot thank Manson enough, for sharing his views.

Interesting Title, Surprising Interest

This book has an entertaining way to address “life” and what you may think is important and how to “fine tune” that for a fulfilling life. Makes one reflect in a simple way, not in a way that makes you turn your back or resist. The author shares stories about real-life people and outcomes along with his “take” on how results could have been better, for the purpose of yielding a life with accountability and success.

Worth reading

This book absolutely worth reading! You won't regret spending time reading it, the whole idea of the book is about telling you how to deal with your life's values. It doesn't give you fake inspirational sentences. when you read it you will face reality as it is, which i found it really cool.

After reading the first few pages, I almost abandoned this book. It wasn’t what I wanted to read. Somewhere in the second chapter, I realized it was what I needed to read. Finishing the book confirmed it. It has pearls of wisdom tucked in between unconventional words and stories. The writing is rough at times, but worth the struggle.

This book is the first book I’ve ever read fully. I’ve struggled with anxiety and depression for along time. This book changes your mind and life all together. It makes you think a little bit different on how you’re life is in general. Anyone who needs to quite their mind and feel more at peace with ones self. Then here is your book.

King_Jay1991

This book gives a great insight towards self improvement! The author does it in a way that is blunt, and that bluntness is definitely needed in this modern world.

I actually got quite a bit out of this book - there were a few parts I didn’t quite agree with, but the author made his points clearly and concisely. Also I enjoyed the gratuitous swearing.

Relatable

This book reads smooth. Simple but has deep concepts with some great phrasing. I had already made a decision to move to South America from the US before reading this book, stressed out and but beyond excited most times about it. For me, this book helped explain why I wanted to and why it is important to me to have these experiences in my short life. And I think this applies to most things. Thanks Mark.

Anybody have a suggestion ?

How good is this book?

Brę_J

Ok it’s nice

I do like the Authors opinions about being successful. My parents get paid well but they wish they different jobs. My mom hates being a teacher sometimes because of discipline and rudeness their. My dad which wanted to be a game creater but is stuck with helping business websites. I want to be a scientist or a game coder but even life’s a struggle for me because of school and proving that I’m responsible and mature. And I’m trying to fight off my sadness and angry outbursts. Every time I get angry I cry to prevent myself from getting in violent fights. So not give a f$&k about life is only sometimes helpful...

fatdoinks69

Mediocre at best

Starts off interesting, unwinds into subjective concepts most likely taken from the author’s own experiences .

This book gave me everything I needed. Although I didn’t change as I read this book I feel as if it will take years to truly master the concepts displayed in the book to come to peace with myself. The message was very clear, straightforward, and funny. This book was raw, and sometimes that’s what people need.

I give the book a letter grade of a B. It has some true gems of wisdom but overall I felt that the author wasn’t providing as much substance as I was looking for.

This book absolutely worth reading! You won't regret spending time reading it, the whole idea of the book is about telling you how to deal with your life's values. It doesn't give you fake inspirational sentences. when you read it you will face reality as it is, which i found it really cool.

It makes you think a little bit different on how you’re life is in general. Anyone who needs to quite their mind and feel more at peace with ones self. Then here is your book.

Awesome Read!

This book gives a great insight towards self improvement! The author does it in a way that is blunt, and that bluntness is definitely needed in this modern world.

The subtle art of not giving a f*uck

This is a great read! It is not your typical motivational book. It broadens one’s perspective to a world that is greater and larger than one’s self. It is thought provoking and helpful.

I am impressed

I can’t believe how much an eye opener this book is. Definitely makes you look deeper into the things you pursue in life.

Life changing

Exactly when I needed it.

Pretentious trash

I never review things, but boy. This needs to be said. This reeks of r/iamverysmart. This guy quotes freud without irony. Tasteless boring analogies. Okay philosophy but wish someone with actual perspective wrote this book, not Dude Who Got Broken Up with and Started Going to the Gym. Talk about entitlement indeed. Borrows stories from the news page of Snapchat to make a radical hot take you saw your uncle post last week on Facebook. Wish i could get a refund.

Amazing love it from beginning to end!

Incredible

As a young man at 24 years old, this book has touched me to the core. The author’s reflection has addressed many of, if not all of the issues I’m currently facing. Thank you Mark.

Authentic. Refreshing. Funny.

Such a raw, relatable way to write about some of life’s challenges! I really enjoyed this book as it gave me a different perspective on the meaning of living a wholesome life with Mark Manson’s added humor threaded into every page.

Everyone should read this

This book was suggested to me by a friend, I have really been struggling lately with caring about anything and it was very enlightening. Can’t wait to read his next one!

Very Useful

I actually got quite a bit out of this book - there were a few parts I didn’t quite agree with, but the author made his points clearly and concisely. Also I enjoyed the gratuitous swearing.

Relatable

This book reads smooth. Simple but has deep concepts with some great phrasing. I had already made a decision to move to South America from the US before reading this book, stressed out and but beyond excited most times about it. For me, this book helped explain why I wanted to and why it is important to me to have these experiences in my short life. And I think this applies to most things. Thanks Mark.

I know a bad app when I see it

Ok book

Nothing new. Like I live my life.

Awesome AF

This book gave me everything I needed. Although I didn’t change as I read this book I feel as if it will take years to truly master the concepts displayed in the book to come to peace with myself. The message was very clear, straightforward, and funny. This book was raw, and sometimes that’s what people need.

Life altering

Awesome!

Amazing book!

I liked it better in the first few chapters. Got kinda boring at the end. Still, it is an amazing book. I loved it.

I really like it, worth to read

Title this under “would have made a better blog post”

... but not really enough here for a full book. The only salient point I really walked away with is the fact that he’s in love with the sound of his own ideas.

Ravenvile

Astounding

All I can say is I loved it.
